With a voice that combines the best elements of Anne Wilson, Bonnie Raitt and Janis Joplin, Christine is a mesmerizing musical force! With infectious melodies, toe-tapping rhythms, and a story to tell, Sherman Downey presents his craft with a charm and poignancy that leaves a lasting impression. As work begins on his third album, Sherman Downey continues to craft songs that are both whimsical and poignant; performing them with unabashed honesty and has carved out a spot as one of Canada’s must-see acts.
Norma MacDonald – Thursday, April 20
Norma MacDonald epitomizes the ‘folk-roots’ genre. Managing to seamlessly meld her innate old-school country sensibilities with her contemporary influences (Wilco, Patty Griffin, Springsteen), the resulting output is grounded, authentic and lyrically sophisticated. She has a voice of gold and is a natural, musical storyteller.
Matthew Byrne – Thursday, May 4
Matthew Byrne was born into a family of Newfoundland music makers and his repertoire is heavily influenced by his unique musical lineage. This tradition thrives on the song – the weaving of a great story with a beautiful melody – and Matthew’s music reminds us how satisfying traditional songs can be when stripped down to these basic elements. His live performance offers tasteful and honest interpretations of folk songs delivered with polished guitar work and powerful vocals. His repertoire transcends time and place with traditional songs from both sides of the Atlantic.
Alfie Zappacosta – Thursday, May 11 and Friday, May 12
Undeniably one of Canada’s premier songwriters and performers with chart topping hits and a recording and acting career that has spanned 40 years. Alfie continues to evolve as an artist by “doing it his way”, an effort that has been rewarded with an impressive song catalogue and a discerning loyal fan base
Ian Foster – Thursday, June 1
Newfoundland native Ian Foster comes from a place of stories, and he knows how to tell them. He’s a road worn troubadour who has been described as having a keen poetic sense and a searcher’s infinite wisdom in his writing, and yet can make you laugh between songs. He writes in a modern folk style and exudes a love of storytelling. CBC’s Bob Mersereau described him as being “a fine example of what a 21st century folk performer should be doing.”
Steve Poltz – Wednesday, June 14 (SOLD OUT)
“Carefree, joyful, fearless and heartbreakingly sincere, Steve Poltz is a spontaneous storyteller and masterful musician. He is co-writer of Jewel’s “You Were Meant for Me”, San Diego’s Artist of the Decade, and dual-citizen (but if a hostage situation breaks out he’s conveniently Canadian). Taking audiences on a journey of unadulterated emotion, he leaves people blissfully confused, yearning for more and friends forever”
Garrett Mason – Thursday, July 13
Juno award-winning blues guitarist Garrett Mason will be playing a special solo show at Corked Wine Bar on July 13th. Garrett’s a true bluesman at heart and known as one of Canada’s hottest, funkiest Blues acts. This blues man has learned well from his elders and has taken it to a whole new level, developing a unique sound and style all of his own.
Christina Martin – Thursday, August 3
Her fifth and most powerful album ‘It’ll Be Alright’ was released in 2015, winning the 2016 East Coast Music Award for Pop Recording of the Year. The Nova Scotia based artists’ advantage is her powerful and emphatic voice, catchy and intellectually pop-driven tunes, and an uncanny ability to connect with her audiences. Her songs oscillate between Eurythmic-styled pop, alt country and classic rock.
Suzie Vinnick – Wednesday, August 16 & Thursday, August 17
Suzie Vinnick is the owner of a gorgeous, powerful voice and performs with a sweet mixture of engaging candidness and unparrelled musicianship. She will be touring this summer in support of her new album and we are thrilled that she can stop in Fredericton for 2 nights with us!
Special thanks to Gary Morehouse for providing excellent sound quality for all our shows! He is also a great real estate agent and we recommend you look him up if buying or selling a house
